What are Young Democrats?

The Thurston County Young Democrats are a chapter of the Young Democrats of Washington, which in turn belongs to the Young Democrats of America.

Young Democrats have been active in Washington State for nearly 75 years. As the official youth arm of the Democratic Party, we work to engage young people in the civic process and to ensure that the Party's goals reflect the vision of its younger members.

In particular, TCYD creates opportunities for young adults to partake in civil discourse, meet local elected Democratic officials, participate in political campaigns and develop leadership techniques. Our organization is founded on the principles of Democratic Party, and we work with our party's leadership to ensure that the concerns of young people are addressed by our government representatives.

Hillary grew up in Olympia and has also helmed chapters in Clark County, WA and at PLU. She currently serves as the Organizing Director for the Young Democrats of America and sits on the group's Executive Board.

K.D. Champan grew up in Tenino, and currently spilts much of time between Thurston County and Clark County, Washington (where she works). K.D. is also the Southwest Washington Director for the Young Democrats of Washington.

Membership in TCYD is open to young people living in Thurston County, Washington who are under the age of 36 and are willing to publically declare themselves as a Democrat.
